Media personality cum feminist, Akosua Hanson has advised celebrities to be mindful of endorsing political parties.
The outspoken YFM presenter opined that politics has the tendency of destroying the career of a celebrity if not well managed.
Speaking in a panel discussion on ‘Gee Spot’ with MzGee, Miss Hanson who is known for her nonconformist views sharply asserted that celebrities must way the options of whether aligning with a political party will be beneficial to their personal agendas.
” There are people who are doing this (politics) for their personal gains. And that’s the world. So it depends on the celebrity and what they want to do with it. But celebririties should be wise because politics can mar your career.”
Citing examples from America, Akosua buttressed her point juxtaposing two rappers.
” For instance, Kanye West had is numbers significantly drop because he was supporting and celebrating Trump which is problematic,
“But there’s Chance the Rapper who is already an activist in communities talking about black children and education and all of that. So when someone like him goes into politics, it only amplifies his cause.”
The Gee Spot with MzGee shows on Joy Prime, DStv 281 on Saturdays at 6.30 pm.
