Multiple award-winning reggae-dancehall artist, Charles Nii Armah Mensah known within the showbiz fraternity as Shatta Wale has called on the Government of Ghana to retool the structures of the music industry.
In an interview with MzGee on TV3’s Simply Showbiz, he bemoaned the lack of proper structures in the sector which has had a massive toll on the income of creatives over the years.
Referencing the Food and Drugs Authority and the Gaming Commission’s ban imposed on celebrities, the Chief Executive of the Shatta Movement, pleaded with government to reconsider its decision since it has rendered alot of influential players in the industry financially handicapped especially following Covid-19 restrictions.
He proceeded to demand government assume a critical role in restructuring the entertainment industry.
“Nobody is helping our music industry that is why I would call on leaders, businessmen, and the general public to support the creative sector. The talents are selling Ghana to the world now. Initially, government attention was on the football and now, football isn’t selling the nation as widely speculated, it is the music and that’s the more reason why the government needs to support the industry to sell the nation to the outside world.”
