Rapper Derrick Sarfo Kantanka, popularly referred to as Amerado Burner is
beseeching Ghanaians who do not support the ‘Kumerica’ craze not to condemn it.
Speaking to MzGee on TV3 New Day, the ‘Twaso’ rapper, who insists he is “a proud Kumerican” said the concerns raised by some Ghanaians, that the tag derived from America demeans the culture and heritage of the people of Kumasi, are not valid.
“The kind of dressing that we put out, our language, we are sitting her speaking
English so if we are trying to like copy the lifestyle of people and finding the means to
project our culture, what is wrong with it?…what is all this culture, culture thing, it is Kumerica, it is Kumasi and we are just projecting our people through this movement…. We should just be positive about this thing and help the boys who are trying to put the drill music out there. I support them 100%”…I am a Kumerican, a pure Kumasi guy and I always want to represent Ghana in a positive way, if you cannot support the movement please don’t condemn it”. He explained.
The rapper was featured alongside Reggie Rockstone, Ypee, Yaa Jackson and some
other rappers on media personality Zionfelix’s track dubbed Kumerica.
