Ghanaian entertainment pundit Ricky Tenneson has called on his colleagues to stop making a big deal out of artistes who are performing around the world but are of less impact on their local market.

Speaking on Showbiz 927 with MzGee, his arguments were centered on the fact that Wiyaala, despite her playing shows at festivals and performing on other stages internationally, failed to make an impact in Ghana which is largely responsible for her abysmal performance on streaming platforms.

He was astonished as to why an artiste of Wiyaala’s caliber failed to make it to the lists of most-streamed artistes despite her constantly performing outside Ghana to international audiences.

“We need to look at the traveling and touring debate again. Truthfully, everybody who has been very impactful is benefitting from streaming. A lot of streaming platforms have released their list of artistes whose songs were most-streamed and Wiyaala is not in there. Touring should activate your music or brand and as well reflect in your streams. Her most-streamed songs are songs that resonated in Ghana many years ago with less than a million views. Industry players should stop making a big deal out of tours, they artistes need to do better.” he said

Ricky called on Wiyaala’s team to review their strategy.

“If she can tour around the world and also local artiste like Wendy Shay has more streams than her, then her team should re-strategize. The artiste should focus on the local market because it is profitable now.” He explained
