AMG record label signee Medikal has served notice that he will no longer respond to attacks by fellow musicians unless he receives the appropriate financial incentive.
A little over a year ago, the ‘Omo Ada’ rapper dominated headlines after he claimed that he saved the rap game when the genre was struggling. His statement did not go down well with many Ghanaians as well as colleague rapper.
He later got entangled in a rap battle with Strongman who disapproved of the antics of Medikal.
By the end of the feud, which was largely judged in favour of Strongman, the artistes had dropped three songs each, including ‘Immortal’ and ‘Ups and Downs’ by Strongman and ‘Drip’ and ‘Last Burial’ by Medikal.
Earlier this year, Medikal was also dragged into the feud between Eno and Sista Afia after Eno accused him of being the Ghost writer for Sista Afia.
Well, Many were disappointed when he refused to respond, but in an interview with MzGee on TV3 Newday, Medikal explained that the days of saving the struggling careers of other musicians by engaging them in public lyrical battles are long gone.
” no the thing bi say if you want make Medikal do something wey i go help you, like help your brand or something, you can see my management we can sit and talk about it, but for you to get a free hype of insulting me in a song or on twitter, man no go mind you because at the end of the day whatever you write or say doesnt put food on my table, you get me, so i choose not to pay mind to whatever people say about in my music”
When asked what was the going rate for responding to beefs he said it was well beyond the means of poor artiste:
“it depends on the artiste because its not any artiste who has the means, because i dey charge like my phone dey low battery, i dey charge crazy, so at the end of the day if you be artiste wey you get money wey you feel like say may be you need some resurrection in your something something career then we can work something out but obviously you need to get money too, so if you don’t have money don’t come at all and then don’t do that lame thing talking about Medikal in your music or on twitter to spark some beef, i’m off that”.
