Actor Prince David Osei has dismissed claims that celebrities who have endorsed the governing New Patriotic Party have sold their conscience for pittance and are to blame for the woes of the industry.
In a social media video, actor Mikki Osei-Berko, livid about the recent endorsements laid the blame for the sordid state of the creative industry on the shoulders of his colleagues who have become representatives of the political parties in the run-up to the December elections.
But in a sharp rebuttal, Prince David Osei insists it is rather patriotic to support a political party which has the good of the nation at heart.
“It is not about selling your voice and influence to the politicians but it is about using your influence to fight for a good course. I’ve not earned anything from the party, I’m just doing because I believe they have greater things for the people of Ghana.” He explained.
He further revealed that he is not a latter day saint when it comes to supporting the NPP:
“I’ve always been a member of the NPP, even at the time where I was at the University of Ghana during former President Kuffour’s era. I publicly came out to champion the great policies of the government,”
He then singled out the Free SHS programme as the incumbent government’s most impactful policy yet;
“The free Senior High School initiative is very laudable and worth supporting. The first point to having a successful career in the creative sector is by getting educated and I supported the Government to do more. There is currently a Creative Arts School at Kwadaso, which would help the industry to prosper.”
Prince David Osei was however quick to add that he will not hesitate to grab any position offered him by the NPP since it will help nurture his political ambitions.
