Nigerian actress, Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde has expressed her disappointed over the fact that no African movie was nominated for the 2019 edition of the Oscars.
The Oscars released the list of nominees on Tuesday, with “Black Panther” becoming the first comic book movie to be nominated for Best Picture, and Lady Gaga nominated for Best Actress.
But the 40 year old mother of four who was recently inducted as a member of the Academy has said she is unhappy no African movie made the cut.
She however expressed optimism that the time for Africans will come.
She took to her Instagram page to write: “The Nominations are Out!
So glad Most of the Movies I nominated made it. Next , Voting to determine the Winners!… Wasn’t So Exited No African Movie made it ! Someday soon we will Be doing this for Africans! Till then… which were your best movies of 2018?”
This year, black-led movies including ‘Black Panther’,BlacKkKlansman and If Beale Street Could Talk have received massive nominations.
