Ghanaian DJ, Micheal Owusu widely known as DJ Mic Smith explained the reason behind his hit record ‘Jama’.

According to the YFM DJ, Nigerian dancehall star Patoranking proposed they worked on something that was originally Ghanaian when he spoke to him about recording a song.

He explained that the idea was birthed after they both agreed to produce a song with a ‘Jama’ feel.

He told MzGee in a conversation that he had always been a fan of ‘Jama’ songs since the days of veteran sound engineer, Jay Q.

“Growing up, I used to listen to a lot of Jay Q beats. Jay Q back then was the King of Jama songs. So Patoranking just came to Ghana and said he was like let’s go back and give them something. And Jama is an original Ghanaian culture so we created that,” he said on ‘The Gist’

He indicated that he was sure the song was going to be an instant hit right from the onset following the success of his song ‘Yenkor’ featuring Kwesi Arthur.

On the mode of payment between him and the artistes who feature on his songs, the award winning DJ explained that it is dependent on how the artiste wants it.

“Some of them return the favours because we play their music and promote them. Some of them too take 50/50 on the streams” he added.
