The highlife legend described the first president as a brave and selfless person who dedicated his all for the betterment of Ghana in all sectors.

In an interview with MzGee on Tv3’s New Day, he revealed that the Musician Union Of Ghana (MUSIGHA) and the entire arts industry have benefited greatly from him, citing as an example of this goodwill, an instance that he gave the musicians union an office space to carry out all official functions.

“J.J Rawlings has contributed greatly to the art industry than any other President. He gave MUSIGA an office space to discharge their official duties. He also supported the local artists by gracing every show in which he was invited.”

The legendary highlife star revealed that he first met the statesman when he was schooling at Achimota Secondary School through his friends who had a connection with him. He describes him as an ideal figure who stood out in everything he did.

He was very brave and idealistic, he had his style which made him very different from everybody and people respected him for that. His persona never changed, he was very helpful and selfless.” He added

According to Ben Brako, the demise of the former president is a big blow to the nation and the creative industry in general describing his love for Ghanaian music and heritage as unprecedented.

In addition to that, the singer shared a fond memory of the leader when he (Rawlings) hugged him before his performance at a concert.

I remember a time where I was on the bill with Isaac Hayes at the State House, as I was about to perform, the President called me and gave me a warm embrace before the audience and that was one of my iconic moments with him, it was a great gesture.”
