Veteran actor, Fred Amugi has revealed that late President Jerry John Rawlings out of sympathy, whipped fellow actor, late Odoi Mensah to “save” him.
Speaking on Simply Showbiz on Tv3 with MzGee, Mr. Amugi said the event happened during a drama piece portraying slavery to foreigners who had come into the country on tour. The late President who was part of the audience couldn’t stand the torture being meted out to him in the play. He quickly went for the whip to smack his co-actor who played master over the slaves.
“…I was in shackles [as a slave] which gave me bruises and Odoi Mensah was supposed to fake whipping us. He whipped me so hard to the irritation of Rawlings who came for the whip, whipped him back and asked, “I thought you guys were acting. Why did you do that?”
He further revealed that the late JJ Rawlings was an ardent fan of the arts and never missed any of their productions.
