L-R: Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy

Highlife veteran, Rex Omar has said Ghanaian dancehall heavyweights, Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy are not bigger than the music industry.

The Board Chairman of Ghana Music Rights Organisation (GHAMRO) who was defending his stance on why the two former industry arch rivals’ VGMA ban should hold, explained that the music industry was a much bigger entity.

Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy were sanctioned with a ban and stripped off all awards after an incident between the two led Stonebwoy into pulling a gun on stage at the 2019 VGMA.

Speaking in an interview with MzGee on Showbiz927 on 3FM, the ‘Abiba’ hitmaker noted that the ban will serve as a deterrent to emerging acts.

“They are not bigger than the industry. No matter how big you are, you are not bigger than the industry; we have had bigger artistes in Ghana before. If we allow them to become bigger than the industry then we have no industry,” he emphasized.

“The thing is whatever happened at the VGMA’s that night, shouldn’t happen again. The only way to stop this is to continue the ban. It will send a single to up and coming artistes.” He stressed

Stonebwoy has however responded to the veteran musician, stating that he should concentrate on GHAMRO.
