Ghanaian filmmaker, Socrates Sarfo, is not in support of actor John Dumelo’s ambition of representing the people of Ayawaso West Wuogon in parliament.
Actor John Dumelo, is the candidate of the Opposition National Democratic Congress hoping to unseat the incumbent, Lydia Seyram Alhassan, who is seeking re-election after she won the controversial ayawaso west wuogon bye election following the demise Emmanuel Kyeremanteng Agyarko of the NPP.
John Dumelo seems to represent the NDC’s brightest chance at capturing Ghana’s richest constituency which houses the University of Ghana, which it last won in 1996.
Until he was ordered to stop by the Assembly, John Dumelo has been leading a dredging exercise with the hope to reduce flooding in the flood prone areas in the constituency.
Commenting on John Dumelo’s candidature, Socrates Sarfo, downplayed any chances of actor cum politician winning that election.
“I don’t support him because I know that from the look on the grounds, Lydia is performing and if it is not broken, you don’t fix it. Whatever the constituency needs, Lydia is performing,” he said
Socrates Sarfo was quick to add that despite his opposition to Mr. Dumelo’s political ambitions and affiliations, he is a fine actor.
“…but that doesn’t make me and John Dumelo enemies. Anytime, I see his film, if I am to produce today, I will cast John Dumelo. He is a fine artiste, one of the best artistes we have in the country,” he added.
