Broadcaster Afia Pokuaa widely known as Vim Lady has lashed out to successive governments for failing to elevate the creative arts industry.
The outspoken journalist stated that the Creative Arts Ministry has not been able to do enough to transform the industry.
She made the comments when she spoke on the topic “Do we have an effective creative arts industry” on the Gee Spot show with MzGee.
“During Elizabeth Agyare’s time, actors and actress where taken to America instead of investing the money in the sector. And in Catherine Afeku era, we were doing Agyarko TV and Daddy Lumba TV which won’t bring a single tourist to Ghana. And also, 1.5 million dollars was spent on AFRIMMA. All that was complete waste of money,” she said
Vim Lady further lamented on the infiltration of foreign content in the local media space which is phasing out the locally generated content.
“We’ve collapsed the movie industry, Kumawood was the last one standing and it has also been collapsed and now we are watching Indian movies everywhere because its cheap money for local media. We buy it and show it and get forty something advertising contents and that is because we also have to make money”. she added
