Ghanaian music producer, Guilty Beatz has said the famous ‘Akwaaba’ dance was originally owned by afrobeats star, Mr Eazi.

According to him, Mr Eazi had earlier used the dance in his music video to his song ‘Pour me water’ but there was no name to the song.

Guilty Beatz told MzGee in a conversation on Joy Prime’s ‘The Gist’ that Mr Eazi proposed they used the dance for Akwaaba after they recorded the song.

” The ‘Akwaaba’ dance came from Mr Eazi. He first did it in his ‘Pour me water’ video but it had no name. So when I sent him the song, he proposed that we use that dance and call it Akwaaba so we’ll release it with the song.” he noted.

Asked if the dance helped in projecting the song, Guilty Beatz answered in the affirmative.

” It did. I think that its something that’s in music. When a song comes with something that’s physical people tend to gravitate towards that and they relate to the song so it helps the song more.”

He also admitted that the success of Akwaaba inspired him to use the same strategy for his latest single, ‘Pilolo’.

The Gist airs on the Joynews Channel on MultiTV and on DSTV 421 on Saturdays and Sundays at 8.30pm.
