Former artiste manager and CEO of Palm Media, Kiki Banson has identified artiste who are not properly “educated in their trade” as a major problem which leads to rifts between musicians and their management.
Misunderstandings which degenerate into full blown conflicts between Artists and their management has taken center with many examples cropping up recently.
A chunk of these problems have been largely due to the fact that most of the relationships between these artists and their management have been regulated by a poorly written contract or in some cases there has been no contract at all.
Speaking to MzGee on 3fm’s Showbiz927, Becca’s former Manager did not mince words when he said ‘Working with an “illiterate” artiste is the worst thing that can ever happen”.
He then called on the umbrella body of musicians in the country MUSIGA to urgently step in to bridge the gap.
“Bodies like MUSIGA should make sure that they organize seminars, short courses for up and coming artistes to be educated about their business before they go into it.”
He however admitted, such third parties may not necessarily have the power to influence an agreement between two contracting parties though he believes there should be more education and a standby team to advice on things like that.
