The Steering Committee of the “Year of Return Ghana” has refuted media reports that embattled R&B singer, R. Kelly will be performing in Ghana as part of the activities of the programme.

News went rife early this week suggesting that the committee has contacted the 52 year old troubled singer to participate in this year’s activities.

This news was greeted by stiff opposition from the public who argue R. Kelly should not be allowed to participate in any of the activities in the country due to the recent sexual misconduct allegations leveled against him in the docu-series titled ‘Surviving R. Kelly’.

In a statement, the committee said R. Kelly is not scheduled to participate in any of the programmes lined up as part of the Year of Return activities.

“The Steering Committee of the Year of Return Ghana has taken notice of media publications that suggests that American R&B singer, more popularly known as R. Kelly is scheduled to come to Ghana to perform as part of the Year of Return activities.

The committee is unaware of any event which has Mr. Kelly billed to participate. Further, the committee has had no engagements with any event promoters/organisers regarding Mr. Kelly’s supposed performance in Ghana. The committee has not also endorsed any event featuring R. Kelly.” they wrote.
